Family Affair

Keitt|Sapp|Shumake|McRae|McMillian|Clark|Ryal - All from Georgia

This site was created to chronicle and share my genealogy research. It is also a tool for others that are searching for their family members and to see if there is any connection to my family. This is a project that is going to take years to complete. It has been a labor of love, a great deal of fun and quite stimulating.

If you are interested in the various surnames, you can start with the ones across the top of this page or you can look for them in the categories section to the right.

Please leave comments on any of the posts/articles that you read or email me using the form on the right. I do want your feedback, I will try to answer any question, and I desire your interaction. Love to know how to improve this site to better serve you,

Mose McRae's mothers name is Mary

Mose McRae
My cousin Jesse discovered Mose and his mother Mary along with three siblings on the 1870 census just four doors away from Matilda McAllister, his future wife. Just this weekend I spoke to a cousin who is also a descendant of Mose and Matilda. His grandfather was the son of Mose, John Franklin, and his father is also named John Franklin, his name is Robin McRae. He also confirmed that Mose's mother was named Mary, but we have no last name other than McRae that was on the 1870 census, but no maiden name. Going back further than Mary is going to be a tough task, but we have so much more that we can work on, and that is the three sisters of Mose, Mary, Ann, and Betsy. There list of descendants are going to be just as long and tedious as ours.
Robin also told me that he was told that Mose was a mixture of Caucasian and Indian. The census shows mulatto. Could it possibly be that their mother Mary was full-blood Indian and the father white, that is the likely story. I now need to research to see what tribes were in the area around 1825, when Mary was born, her maiden name would help as well.
There is still so much work to be done and I am steadily working on this and it is great.
