This research is truly a labor of love, and I now want this site to be even more. I want it to be a place where other African Americans that are researching their family's history can come for guidance. I am learning so much while working on this site and my family's history and I want to share that with all that is interested in researching their own history.
I am sure that many of you have heard how it is so powerful knowing where you come from, what were the struggles of those that came before you, well it is absolutely true. I am just learning how true that is. I am constantly amazed at how much I still don't know. I have met some of these new-found relatives and discover how similar their personality is to mine or someone else in the family that I know.
In many ways I am inclined to believe that it is in the DNA, because in some cases these people grew up in different parts of the country, so we can't say that it is cultural. I believe genetics dictate a great deal more about who we are and who we will become than we are willing to admit.
We often don't want to admit this because we come across some of those not so desirable traits, and we want to blame something else. I have always found that comical. We so easily dismiss those things we see in our children or other relatives as being something they must have gotten from the other side of their family. "She is like her daddy's side of the family."
With this site I intend to explore this for my family, and hopefully the day will come where we can discuss and share in these findings.
I am trying to expand this site in many ways and welcome any all questions and suggestions.
I have also added a donate button but for those of you who would like to contribute to this effort. I intend to one day put all of this in book form, with photos and stories and family trees for each of the surnames here.
